Near byPROUD RESIDENCES OF THE ELECTORAL PALATINATE

The once-mighty electors of the Palatinate left their mark on this region. In the steep Neckar Valley, they built first a castle, and then a Renaissance palace grand enough to rival any of the German emperor’s residences. In the 18th century, they turned their attention to the wider Rhine Valley, constructing one of the largest Baroque palaces and an extraordinarily beautiful summer residence. These three sites – Heidelberg, Mannheim and Schwetzingen – reveal the rich history of this region.
